Francisco Inchauste is bang on the money with his article regarding the fact that the general consensus on design is still leaning more towards decoration than functionality.
This focus on style is unhealthy. If we create every design saturated with so much style -which does nothing to inform or reflect behavior – the work is useless.
I do have to say that the “far corners of the community” that talk and write about design thinking and craft are penetrating the community more and more – especially if we look at initiatives like The Manual, The Shape of Design and New Adventures in Web Design. There is definitely a growing demand for the “Why?” instead of the “How?”.
